Senior Wellness Exams – catch problems early on for a better quality of life!
Let’s face it, our pets have a relatively short lifespan so every day they are with us is a gift. As our pets age many health issues may arise; however, our pets won’t let us know about these issues until they are quite advanced. All animals, including our dogs and cats are very good at hiding illness until they can’t anymore, at which point they present to us profoundly ill. It’s like they fell off a cliff. Once they reach this point, many times, there’s very little that can be done to bring back a meaningful quality of life. So the goal is to catch these developing illnesses as early as possible. When we actually have a chance to slow down or cure the problems.
Regular 6 month exams are an important part of picking up health issues at an early stage. However, even more importantly, especially once dogs and cats are between 7 and 10 years of age, are annual blood and urine screenings or what we refer to as Senior Wellness Exams. Annual senior wellness exams allow us to pick up diseases of geriatric pets very early and make simple changes to their lives that allow them to live a better quality of life for a longer period of time…and isn’t that what we all want? In 30 years of practice, I’ve realized that there is no better way to maintain good quality of life for our pets than to catch these geriatric diseases as early as they rear their ugly heads and nip them in the bud. The best way to do that is to perform annual Senior Wellness Exams.
